The Code of the Universe

IN THE WORLD’S RACE TO DESIGN THE ACCELERATOR FOR THE POST-LHC ERA, EUROPE, WITH CERN, OCCUPIES A CHOICE POSITION.

The 2020 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics recommended that Europe, together with its international partners, pursue a feasibility study for a future hadron collider (FCC-hh) at CERN with a centre-of-mass energy of at least 100 TeV. The strategy also identified, as a possible first step, the construction of an electron–positron collider (FCC-ee). The FCC Feasibility Study was subsequently launched, bringing together a broad international collaboration, although achieving such an ambitious scientific and technological endeavour will require sustained global engagement and support.

The FCC Feasibility Study, concluded in 2025, brought together a broad international collaboration to explore the project’s scientific, technical, environmental and financial dimensions. Its findings are expected to inform the next update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics and contribute to future discussions on the long-term direction of the field. Achieving such an ambitious scientific and technological endeavour, however, will require sustained global engagement and support.
